Basalt fiber and its application:

Basalt fiber is the material received from fusion of rocks with a certain chemical composition without addition of other chemicals. Thanks to the unique properties basalt fiber and production on its basis find more and more broad application in all industries. Materials on the basis of basalt fiber maintain high temperatures, are steady against acids and alkalis, have the considerable mechanical durability therefore they successfully pressed products from fiber glass.

Continuous basalt fibers are a basis for production of a set of various types of materials and products. Basalt fibers are well compatible to other materials and fibers that allows to create a set of the combined materials.

The special attention is deserved by the combined materials of continuous basalt fibers with carbon fibers, and also reinforcing by basalt fibers of concrete, asphalt concrete of building constructions. Materials with NBV and carbon fibers possess rather high characteristics and are much cheaper than materials from purely carbon fibers that opens rather broad prospect of their mass application.

Advantages of materials from basalt fiber:

Materials from basalt fiber have the following important advantages: porosity, vapor permeability, temperature stability and chemical firmness.

• High porosity of products on the basis of basalt fiber is characterized by low heat conductivity of material that allows to use it as effective thermal insulation;
• Vapor permeability - ability of material to pass water vapor. Existence of a time in material allows to pass the same amount of steam, as well as air. Thanks to this property, materials and products on the basis of basalt fiber practically always remain dry;
• Range of operational temperatures of materials and products on the basis of basalt fiber
  from-200ºС to +900 ºС;
• Materials and products from basalt fiber of a rack to influence of organic substances (solvents, oils, gasolines and so forth), and also to influence of alkalis and acids.

Researches of the Ufa state oil technical university and the Perm state technical university showed that at all compositions of concrete with addition of a fiber basalt growth of durability of samples of concrete on a bend from 20 to 70% is observed.
